At the end of this year, we found out that the program would be canceled for our district. We decided to tell the kids the day before our last day (end of the year party). This is how our day went...Me and our other co-worker hung out with our kids for a bit and set up then once Dan bused over his kids from another site, we had them line up and have a seat. I started saying, "Just so y'all know, what we are about to tell you, we have never lied. We have just tried to direct your attention or change subjects, etc. The reason why we couldn't tell you is because we wanted y'all to treat us all the same." (Mind you, these are children we have been with ALL year, EVERY day around 3-6pm). Then I let Dan say, "Me and Mrs. Erica are married." A few made some noises and they just stared at us! They looked shocked, confused, and surprised! Then they started asking away and once Dan said I'll show you a picture of our wedding, they up-roared!
It was a FUN and hilarious time.
Here are some things our children said:
1. Do you have any kids?
2. Oh, y'all are so sexy in your wedding day!
3. Mrs. Erica, you are so beautiful that day!
4. Oh I love you baby baby (while trying to kiss my stomach). --NO, not pregnant haha!
5. Mrs. Erica, did Mr. Dan put a seed in your tummy? (HAHAHAHAHA).
6. Where did you go on your honeymoon?
7. Why don't you and Mr. Dan look alike?
8. Why didn't Mr. Dan take your last name?
9. Why did you get married?
10. You and Mr. Dan are disgusting.
11. Do you live together?
12. Do you share the same room?
13. Do you share the same bed?
14. Mrs. Erica, I'm sorry to tell you but one day you will get in a big argument and get a divorce when you are not in love. I said, "-, No we will not! Do you wanna know why? Because we have God at the center of our relationship! That will not happen!" She said, "Oh, how old are you? That's so in love!" (Crazy to think of what they see).
15. I knew it!
16. How did he propose?
17. Ah, Mr. Dan you stole my woman! (From a child who believes I'm married to him).
HILARIOUS! I cannot explain how dear to my heart these children are.
I had worked 2.5 years in Houston, TX with the same group of kids and my heart broke when we had to leave them to move to Dallas. Now having these children that I've been with for a year and spoken to them about God, manners, life, etc. It's been an honor to serve them! I am so blessed by each child and their parents. Sad to say, but I even had a dream the other night where I was just sitting in a circle with them all and started crying because I knew how much I would miss them.
Know that kids are easily influenced, they want LOVE first, balanced discipline, someone to teach them manners, to play with them, to nurture them, and to show them the path to Jesus.
I LOVE CHILDREN! (( and want my own very very soon!!!! -Dan))
